Bone Densa-Tea

Last year we had a ton of large red clover volunteers all over our property and I was moved to create a "tea" with those beautiful blossoms. Ben insists tisanes HAVE to taste good for people to actually want to drink them; while I tend to believe if there is a medicinal benefit, taste is just a byproduct and not the end all be all.

I polled our Honey Bee newsletters subscribers and you guys responded with a resounding, BRING ON THE MEDICINE! I rose to the occasion and got to formulating a new brew. Red clover has many benefits, but I really wanted to focus on relief of menopause symptoms and its ability to combat osteoporosis by building up weak and brittle bones.

Red clover (Trifolium pratense) contains isoflavones, compounds that are structurally similar to estrogen; giving this legume the super powers I was looking to shine light on. We blended these flowers with the star of the formula, oat straw!

Once we harvest our milky oat tops (Avena sativa) we make sure to chop down the stems, drying and dicing to create the coveted oat straw. The nerve supporting nourishment from these sheaves can reduce stress and help promote restful slumber.....the perfect companion for a women's blend.

When looking to support our bone health even further, I turned to horsetail (Equisetum arvense). This ancient bottle brush looking herb is very high in silica, a mineral important to bone building and allowing the body to more easily absorb natural calcium.

Speaking of calcium, did you know that common burn hazel, aka stinging nettles (Urtica dioica), is chock full of calcium, iron and other minerals? Yup! Ground up nettle leaves were included in this blend to up the calcium levels, creating even more bone health support.

We finished off this new formulation with some alfalfa (Medicago sativa) for its abundant source of calcium, iron, magnesium and a whole host of other vitamins, minerals and amino acids. All of these herbs come together to create our newest product we affectionately call Bone Densa-Tea.

A 2 oz bag of this medicinal tisane is included in the 2024 Spring Box, due to arrive at a doorstep near you by March 21st. We hope you love this blend created to support your nervous system along with building up your bone health. Salud!
